Hugh Casson was born in London in 1910 and died there in 1999. He studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge, British School and Athens. An artist of exceptional gifts and versatility: architect, interior decorator, industrial designer, watercolour painter, stage designer, writer and broadcaster.
Casson was President of the Royal Academy from 1976 to 1984 and Professor of Environmental Design, Royal College of Art 1955-75. He first came to public notice as Director of Architecture for the Festival of Britain for which he was knighted. For some years he exhibited six travel sketches at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Lookout, Herakleion and Stables, Meknes are two of them.
