BLACKBURN David

David Blackburn was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1939. He studied at Huddersfield School of Art and Royal College of Art. A painter and draughtsman, Blackburn lives in Huddersfield, Yorkshire and is a Visiting lecturer at Melbourne University.

He works almost exclusively in pastel; a difficult medium that smudges easily and has to be 'fixed' immediately after the drawing is finished. Unlike many artists who use pastel freely (smudging it for different effects) he works precisely and with great skill produces organised forms and a colour brilliance almost like enamel. He has done a series of drawings entitled The Metamorphosis, Tree Forms, Australian Landscapes and The Creation. Earth Triptych: Creation is an example of the latter. He has had a number of one-man exhibitions and his work is in public galleries.
