Alan Reynolds was born in Newmarket in 1926 and lives and works in Kent. He studied at Woolwich Polytechnic Art School and the Royal College of Art.
Reynolds gained a considerable reputation as a painter in the English Landscape tradition and then in 1960 turned to abstract painting. He is represented in many public collections including the Tate Gallery, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Gallery of South Australia. Reynolds taught Drawing at the Central School of Art and then Painting at St. Martin’s School of Art. He became a Senior Lecturer in Painting in 1985 and retired a decade later.
