REDPATH Anne

Anne Redpath was born in Galashiels in 1895 and died in Edinburgh in 1965. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art.

Redpath was an important Scottish painter who, apart from 15 years in France where she did little painting, lived in Edinburgh until she died. Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes, town scenes, interiors and flowers, she owed much to another important woman painter, Frances Hodgkins, whose work she much admired. Elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1952, her work is in many public galleries.
