Prunella Clough was born in London in 1919 and studied at Chelsea School of Art. She worked in oil and watercolour, etchings and lithographs. She died in December 1999.
Prunella Clough worked as a draughtsman during the war and taught at Chelsea School of Art. Although her pictures may be regarded as abstracts they are usually developed from natural forms like plants and landscape. One of the most imaginative English artists, her works are much admired by artists and critics, although their ambiguity makes them too ‘difficult’ to be widely appreciated. She has pictures in the Tate Gallery and many other public galleries and teaches at Wimbledon School of Art.
