St. John's ARC

St Johns Arts and Recreation Centre offers visitors a varied programme of activities and events for all ages, including exhibitions, dance and music. The hall has a fine acoustic and a Yamaha grand piano, which makes it particularly suitable for musical events. Frequent concerts range from Traditional and Modern Jazz to Classical Chamber Music. Regular performers include The Alberni String Quartet, Harlow Symphony Orchestra and John Petters Jazz Band and Figur'd Shade.

In addition to the programme of performances, there is also an array of workshops and regular classes on offer for young and old alike. Monthly clubs include the Essex Society for Family History and Harlow Decorative & Fine Arts Society.

The ARC provides two main areas: the Hall has a high, beamed ceiling and stained glass windows. It has a capacity of 200. The Refectory is a 1980s extension that provides an area for smaller events requiring a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Wooden beams and large areas of glass have been used to create a light, attractive space ideally suited to Art Exhibitions, Workshops and social events. Both spaces are available for private hire.
