Canal Boat Project

The Canal Boat Project, set up in 1989 is based in Harlow and provides disability access boats on the River Stort.

From small beginnings this not-for-profit organisation started out with just one boat - Stortford Challenger - launched in 1999. It now has three more vessels - Dawn Treader, Red Watch and Stort Daybreak - offering day trips, weekend breaks and holidays.

The canal boats not only provide disability access but also enables people with disabilities to take a full and active part in the boating experience. They can be hired with or without a crew, and scores of individuals and organisations have enjoyed the River Stort boating experience, with many returning year after year.

The project is supported by a team of volunteers who skipper the boats, help with maintenance or administration and support events. Friends of the project also provide vital fund-raising support.
