Harlow Town Football Club was originally formed in 1879, playing its first match in October of that year against Saffron Walden Town. It is one of the oldest clubs in the County of Essex.
IN 1960 it moved away from its roots in Old Harlow to the Sportcentre ground in the new town.
Then in 2006 it moved again to a new, purpose built stadium at Barrows Farm, a mile and a half to the west of their old Sportcentre location. The stadium was built as part of the Harlow Gateway Project which is regeneration housing and leisure facilities in the town.
After awaiting clearance from the Ryman League to start palying at the new stadium HTFC played their first senior match in a Division 1 North fixture versus Ware on 18th October 2006. A highly successful first term at Barrows Farm was complete when the Hawks gained promotion to the Premier Division of the Ryman Football League at the end of the season.
Harlow Rugby Club fields four mens teams, a ladies team and a full range of mini and junior teams. The first team play in a London Division 3NE, the second in Div 1 and the play in Div VI of the BL Essex Merit Table. The fourths play in the Deuxieme Division of the Greene King Merit table and cater for those looking for a more relaxed social game. New players are always welcome.
