Originally Solo Flight was commissioned for the Harvey Centre and formed part of the building contract. It stood dominating the high space of the Central Mall for many years until the owners of the centre replaced it with a glass-enclosed lift. After necessary structural strengthening of the 'wings' a new site was found for it by the Harlow Art Trust. Solo Flight is dedicated to Sonia Anderson, a Harlow Councillor from 1956 to 1997 and a Trustee of the Harlow Art Trust.
