Not in Anger by Leon Underwood
Not in Anger
Artist: Leon Underwood
Bronze Cast c. 1975, Stone version
1925
60 x 75 x 45 cm
The Stow shopping centre
Not in Anger was purchased by the Trust in 1979. It
is a bronze version of a sculpture that was originally carved in
Portland stone in 1925 (this can be seen at the Gibberd Garden).
The clenched fist was frequently used in the 1930s to symbolise
solidarity with the cause of the Republicans in the Spanish Civil
War.
