St John's Arts and Recreation
Centre offers visitors a varied programme of activities and events
for all ages, including exhibitions, dance and music. The hall has
a fine acoustic and a Yamaha grand piano, which makes it
particularly suitable for musical events. Frequent concerts range
from traditional and modern jazz to classical chamber music.
Regular performers include the Alberni String Quartet, Figur'd
Shade, Harlow Symphony Orchestra and John Petters' Jazz Band.
There is a busy daily schedule of recreational classes for young
and old alike, as well as a variety of clubs that meet
monthly.
See the ARC website for more information.
The ARC is the home of local choral group, Harlow Chorus, who hold
regular practice meetings there. Freshwaters Christian Fellowship
holds its Sunday services there.
The ARC has two main spaces for private hire: the Hall and the
Vestry Room. The ARC offers kitchen facilities that can support
most functions.
The Hall is an imposing space that measures 60ft x30 ft. The high
vaulted ceiling and stained glass lend light and character to this
unique venue which has been hired for many different functions from
barn dances to public consultation meetings and for private parties
and wedding receptions. The Vestry Room is a smaller space of
30ftx15 ft, suitable for smaller gatherings. See the ARC website
for conditions of hire and to download a booking form.
The Refectory is a communal area, ideally suited to art classes and
exhibitions.
